WORLD IN BRIEF : THAILAND : Parliament Rejects Ex-Leader’s Amnesty

The Thai Parliament unanimously rejected a decree by ousted Prime Minister Suchinda Kraprayoon granting amnesty to himself and to soldiers who killed pro-democracy demonstrators in May. But legal experts questioned the vote’s legitimacy. If upheld, the decision could force Prime Minister Chuan Leekpai into the potentially explosive task of trying former government and military officials.
