The opening game of the NL playoffs Tuesday night drew one of the lowest postseason prime time marks ever, although it was higher than last year’s playoff opener.

CBS spokeswoman Susan Kerr said Atlanta’s 5-1 victory over Pittsburgh had a rating of 12.0 with a 21 share.

That was far below the rating of 14 and a 24 share for the opening game of last year’s NL series between the same teams, but was slightly above last year’s first game, in which Minnesota and Toronto drew an 11.6 rating and a 20 share.

The game was the second-rated show Tuesday behind “Roseanne,” which had a 23 rating. Kerr said the paid political talk by presidential candidate Ross Perot, which was the lead-in to the game in most of the country, did a 12.2. Perot appeared after the game in the West.

One rating point represents 934,000 homes. A share is percentage of the sets in use tuned to a particular program.
