The San Diego County district attorney’s office Thursday charged jail escapee Johnaton Sampson George with slaying a motorist in the Gaslamp Quarter in addition to six other felony offenses.

George was charged with the murder of Michael Champion, and a special circumstance allegation that the murder was committed in the course of robbery.

This allegation means that George could be subject to the death penalty or life in prison without the possibility of parole.
