COLLEGE ROUNDUP : UC Irvine Takes Victory in Women’s Volleyball

Wendy Kohler had 15 kills as UC Irvine beat William & Mary in a nonconference women’s volleyball match Friday at UC Irvine.

Scotleen Risley added 14 kills as Irvine won, 15-9, 10-15, 15-7, 15-12.

Irvine is 9-8. William & Mary is 11-6.

In California Collegiate Athletic Assn. women’s volleyball:

UC Riverside 3, Chapman 1--Shandi Byrd had 21 kills for visiting UC Riverside, which won 14-16, 17-15, 15-7, 15-7. Riverside (4-11, 1-0) is ranked 22nd in the NCAA Division II poll.

Tori Heywood had 15 kills and Heather McKinley had 14 for the 17th-ranked Panthers (13-7, 1-2).

In Big West women’s volleyball:

Nevada 3, Cal State Fullerton 1--Lisa Parbst had 20 kills for visiting Fullerton (0-11, 0-6), which lost 6-15, 15-4, 15-5, 15-11. In Mountain Pacific Sports Federation men’s soccer:

UNLV 4, UC Irvine 1--Irvine’s goal came when midfielder David Weidner scored on an assist by Jason Smith. The Anteaters are 3-7, 0-2 in conference.

Cal State Fullerton 1, Cal State Northridge 0--Ken Hesse scored to lead Fullerton (8-2, 2-0) past Northridge (7-4, 1-1).
