Player Sets Record, Learns of Family Death

Terrance McMillan set a school record, then discovered his stepbrother had been shot to death.

McMillan, a redshirt freshman flanker for Central Michigan, caught a school-record 12 passes for 116 yards in the Chippewas’ 16-13 loss to Miami of Ohio. His touchdown catch with 3:01 to play nearly won the game.

Afterward, McMillan learned his stepbrother, Brian Mannie, 24, had been shot to death early Saturday in Saginaw, Mich. No one was in custody late Saturday, police said.

“This game didn’t mean a thing,” said Chippewa Coach Herb Deromedi, who kept McMillan off-limits to reporters after the game.

Saginaw police, responding to a disturbance Saturday morning, found Mannie had been shot several times in the upper body, Sgt. Larry Wagner said. Mannie died shortly after arrival at St. Mary’s Hospital in Saginaw.
