Trading Weapons for Hostages

In response to “ ’87 Israeli Memo Tells of Bush Iran Arms Briefing,” Oct. 4:

I don’t get it. If you printed a story about someone saying, “Hey, Bill, close the window! There’s a draft on the bus,” it would be front page. Yet the increasing evidence of George Bush’s lies to the country about his knowledge of the Iran-Contra arms-for-hostage trades are always buried inside. People within Bush’s own camp are consistently showing Bush’s denials to be untrue and your paper doesn’t think the voters need to know about it. Is credibility and honesty only an issue for Clinton? Shouldn’t we also consider whether we’re hearing lies from within the White House?
