Share

The Ventura County League of Women Voters plans a workshop Oct. 30 on conserving dwindling area farmland through a nonprofit land trust.

The workshop will be held at the Bill Esty Community Center, 3701 E. Las Posas Road, Camarillo, from 9 a.m. to noon. An optional luncheon follows.

County Supervisor Maggie Kildee will welcome the group and lead one of the panel discussions on the formation of a county agricultural land trust that could acquire land or accept donations.

Other discussion topics include issues and policies affecting local farmland and the experience of other land trusts in California. Agriculture officials say county farmland decreased at the rate of 1,550 acres a year between 1984 and 1990.

In addition to the League of Women Voters, other co-sponsors include the California Coastal Conservancy, the American Farmland Trust and Ventura County.

The cost of the workshop is $5. The cost of the lunch together with the workshop is $15. For more information, call 654-2455 or 654-2465.
