Sale of Adidas to Pentland Canceled: The sale of the sports shoe company Adidas to the British sporting goods manufacturer Pentland has been canceled, the companies have announced. The chairman of Bernard Tapie Finance, which owns Adidas, said the deal collapsed because of “unacceptable demands that we had to refuse.” BTF Chairman Elie Fellous said Pentland had demanded price reductions that were refused. He said there were other unacceptable demands, but did not elaborate. Pentland said it was not going through with the acquisition of the German-based Adidas, saying an investigation “revealed a number of matters of which Pentland was not previously aware.”
