Saudi Arabia scored three second-half goals and beat the United States, 3-0, in the opening round of the Intercontinental Championship for the King Fahd Cup at Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

A penalty kick by Algishi in the 48th minute, after a foul by U.S. goaltender Tony Meola, broke the scoreless tie. Saudi Arabia added goals in the 74th and 84th minutes, the latter after the U.S. team was limited to 10 players after midfielder Brian Quinn was ejected for dangerous play. The United States will play the loser of today’s Ivory Coast-Argentina match on Monday for third place.
