Mother Finds a Tad More Than Waldo

When Eileen Godfrey started looking for Waldo, she never expected to find him on the same beach as a topless bather.

The mother of two said she was outraged when she spotted a bare-breasted woman in “Where’s Waldo on the Beach?” The popular “Where’s Waldo?” series of books and puzzles encourages children to find hidden figures in crowded scenes.

After Godfrey called the store where she bought the book, the manager pulled the puzzles from its shelves.

London artist Martin Handford, Waldo’s creator, could not immediately be reached for comment Friday. Two other people complained about the puzzle last year, said Pat Duncan, president of Great American Puzzle Factory of South Norwalk, Conn.

“I consider it very innocent, hardly pornographic. If anyone wants to watch TV, they’d really get shocked,” Duncan said.
