Clippers Race Past Cavaliers

Kiki Vandeweghe sank consecutive three-pointers late in the first quarter as the Clippers built a 16-point lead and beat the Cleveland Cavaliers, 109-93, in an NBA exhibition game Saturday night.

Vandeweghe, invited to the Clippers’ camp as a free agent after spending the last three seasons in New York, scored 14 points to share the team lead with Ken Norman and Jaren Jackson. Ron Harper scored 13 points and guard Mark Jackson led both teams with eight rebounds.

The Clippers never trailed, jumping to a 33-17 lead on Vandeweghe’s 3-pointers with under a minute left in the first quarter and building the advantage to 29 at halftime.

They took their biggest lead at 68-38 on Harper’s 3-pointer early in the third quarter. Cleveland got no closer than 16 in the second half.

The Cavaliers hurt themselves by committing 20 turnovers that led to 33 points for the Clippers. Los Angeles had 12 turnovers resulting in 14 points.

Mark Price led the Cavaliers with 19 points, and Brad Daugherty scored 17.
