Two explosions alerted a tenant and nearby firefighters to a blaze that destroyed a manicurist salon early Sunday morning, fire officials said.

No one was injured in the fire, which caused an estimated $100,000 damage to the salon, according to the Newport Beach Fire Department.

Firefighters from the local fire station heard explosions coming from the direction of a business complex 200 yards away at 2:48 a.m., Fire Capt. Steve Bunting said.

Firefighters arrived at the building in the 400 block of 32nd Street to find the Elegant Nails Boutique on the ground floor completely engulfed, with flames threatening to burn the complex’s upper floor.

Horst Noppenberger, who has a second-story office directly above the fire, said a neighbor knocked on his door early Sunday to warn him that his office might be on fire.

Faulty electrical wiring is suspected to be the cause of the fire, but an arson team was investigating the blaze, Bunting said.
