Pollution Research & Control Corp., a Glendale company that makes pollution measurement instruments, reported a 71% increase in third quarter earnings, despite lower revenues.
In the three months that ended Sept. 30, Pollution Research earned $287,000, in contrast with a $168,000 profit a year earlier. Its revenue declined 55%, to $1.62 million from $2.51 million.
The company attributed the higher earnings to increased sales of its pollution monitoring devices, more efficient operations and improved product quality--leading to fewer product returns and repairs. Revenue was down because sales of unrelated products in the third quarter of 1991 weren’t repeated this year, it said.
Pollution Research’s nine-month earnings totaled $641,000, a 49% gain from a $429,000 profit a year before. Revenue was $4.95 million, down 2% from $5.08 million.
