A 62-year-old transient who was videotaped tending 58 marijuana plants in Rose Valley has pleaded guilty to one count of cultivating marijuana, prosecutors said Tuesday.

Leonard Gauvin entered the plea Monday in Ventura County Superior Court. He faces a possible maximum sentence of three years in prison. Sentencing is scheduled for Nov. 17.

Sheriff’s detectives and state narcotics officers secretly videotaped Gauvin caring for the marijuana crop in the upper regions of Rose Valley, about 10 miles north of Ojai in Los Padres National Forest, said Deputy Dist. Atty. Linda Groberg.

“The videotape showed the garden, and it showed the defendant in the garden, picking things off the plants and watering them,” Groberg said.

Detectives arrested Gauvin and seized the plants which, if matured, could have a street value of $25,000 to $30,000, according to police.
