Eat-and-Run Angler Loses Shot at Record

The catch of a 4.9-pound smallmouth bass was reported unofficially at Lake Cachuma north of Santa Barbara.

That would have topped the lake record, but it won’t count. The unidentified angler apparently cleaned and ate the fish before it could be certified.

There also was a 3.76-pound catch, edging the record of 3.75, but it wasn’t officially weighed, either.
