MCI Communications Corp., the nation’s second-largest long-distance telephone company, said its third-quarter earnings rose 15.8% from a year ago on an 11.2% revenue increase. MCI earned $154 million, or 58 cents a share, in the three months ended Sept. 30, against $133 million, or 53 cents a share, a year ago. Revenue for the quarter rose to $2.68 billion from $2.41 billion a year earlier.
