West Hollywood : Car Alarm Law Advances
Light sleepers bothered by car alarms may get some relief through a proposed city law.
The ordinance, which gained all-but-final City Council approval Monday, would fine the owners of cars whose alarms go off more than three times a day or stay on longer than five minutes. Such vehicles may even be towed.
The measure, sponsored by Councilman John Heilman, was prompted by a resident who several times had implored the council to do something about a neighbor’s car alarm that repeatedly sounded. It is modeled after similar measures in Beverly Hills, Santa Monica and Portland, Ore.
Fines would be $100 for the first violation, $200 for the second and $500 for the third within one year.
