Ross Perot’s Campaign

Share

The column strikes a call to duty that all of us should heed. There are a lot of important issues surrounding the current presidential election. One of them is that Perot cannot win the election. That is a simple fact. A vote for Perot is a wasted vote. He will not garner enough votes to win, but if enough people cast “protest votes” for him it could cause the election of a man who does not have support of the majority of the American people.

This problem is created by the enormous wealth that Perot has accumulated. While he may be an honorable man, what happens if someone of dubious integrity and character comes along with more money than the Texas billionaire has, and decides that he wants to buy himself the highest office in the country? We could be in very serious trouble.

The electoral process and the two-party system work. They may not be perfect, but if they haven’t broken down in all these years, don’t abandon them. I would rather have a person in office who was responsible to 50.1% of the people than one who was accountable to only 33.4% of the people.
