A man who stopped at a West Hollywood fast-food restaurant was shot during a struggle with a carjacker over the victim’s 1992 Mercedes-Benz convertible.
Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Deputy Gabe Ramirez said Clarence Taylor, 35, of Beverly Hills drove into the parking lot of the restaurant at 1111 N. La Brea Ave. about 2 a.m. Taylor started to get out of his vehicle when a gunman, identified by police as Kevin L. Click, 25, of San Pedro, walked up holding a .380-caliber handgun.
The gunman ordered Taylor to leave his keys in the ignition and get out of the $95,000 car. But Taylor threw the keys to the ground and struggled with the gunman. Ramirez said the gun went off during the struggle, wounding Taylor in the right side.
The victim got into his car and chased the robber, who was eventually caught by deputies, Ramirez said.
