Maple Stays in Hospital After Spill at Aqueduct
Jockey Eddie Maple was in the hospital on Thursday, a day after being thrown from his mount in the Cowdin Stakes, the opening day feature at Aqueduct.
“We’re still doing tests,” a spokeswoman for Long Island Jewish Hospital said.
“They took X-rays, but they’re not sure about the diagnosis,” Maple said. “The area is between the shoulder blades. I have some old injuries back there and they can’t tell which is old and which is new. I was lucky to be wearing my chest protector.
“Right now, I’m very sore in the back muscles and the chest muscles.”
Maple was thrown by his mount, Dr. Alfoos, at the start, and remained on the track throughout the race. He was taken off in an ambulance, but was on his feet and walking after the incident.
