Parents of Multiples Join Forces for Support

How good it was to see the truth in print in “The Truth About Triplets” (Oct. 4). As the mother of 14-year-old triplets and a multiple-birth parenting educator for the last nine years, I can tell you that having a multiple birth is truly a “difficult happiness.”

Yes, we are blessed. We are also stressed by the workload and distressed by the public misconceptions. We are proud but also burdened by our involuntary status as a “legalized freak show.” Parents of multiples share issues and concerns unique to us.

Recognizing these specialized needs, I began facilitating a series of support groups for parents of multiple births at the Stephen S. Wise Temple Parenting Center in West Los Angeles. Our center offers triplet parenting classes, as well as those for parents of twins, in classes specific to age groups from infancy through 6. All group facilitators are also parents of multiple births.
