County Reform Measures

One could readily support Proposition C to improve representation and increase the diversity of the members of the L.A. County Board of Supervisors until one sees your map depicting the nine proposed districts (Oct. 12). The configuration of the First District is so absurd that “molinamander” could well replace gerrymander in the American political lexicon.
Must partisan affiliation and race/ethnicity be the overwhelming determinants of how we are to be represented? Economic and transportation needs, land usage, housing and other county service issues could determine more geographically cohesive districts while still representing the county’s diverse population. Several alternative districting maps should be presented on the ballot with the voters selecting one.
