LETTERS : ‘This Land’ Is No Laughing Matter

Share

I thoroughly enjoyed your piece about private property rights advocates and their efforts to become a political force (“This Land Is My Land,” Oct. 4).

I got a particular laugh out of the Audubon Society spokesperson’s claim that mobilizing property owners whose constitutional rights are being threatened is part of a large conspiracy being orchestrated by representatives of the Reagan and Bush administrations.

Having served the Bush Administration in an agency that enforces many of the nation’s environmental regulations, I know for a fact that the number of regulations put in place in the name of “protection” has doubled, if not tripled over the last 12 years.

In addition to damaging the credibility of environmental organizations, such irresponsible and unwarranted statements make the job of representing the public interest that much more difficult. Is there any conspiracy that these people feel the government has not participated in?
