One man was sentenced and another man charged on federal bank robbery charges Monday in separate cases stemming from the robberies of three Ventura County banks earlier this year.

Jose Daniel Ramos, 23, of Oxnard was sentenced to six years in federal prison for robbing an Oxnard bank in February, said Charlie J. Parsons, special FBI agent in charge of both cases.

Ramos also was ordered to repay the $358 that he robbed from the Bank of A. Levy on Victoria Avenue in Oxnard on Feb. 21. That crime came just nine days after Ramos allegedly robbed a Security Pacific Bank on Ventura Road in Oxnard.

He pleaded guilty in federal court on Aug. 10 to the Bank of A. Levy robbery, but prosecutors agreed to dismiss the Security Pacific charge, Parsons said.

In the other case, James Martinez, 24, of Oxnard made an initial appearance Monday in federal court to face one count of bank robbery, officials said.

FBI officials said Martinez and an accomplice, Robert Daniel Johnson, 22, of San Diego, robbed the 1st Nationwide Bank on Moorpark Road in Thousand Oaks on June 22.

Both were subsequently arrested, but the charge against Martinez was dropped by prosecutors due to insufficient evidence, FBI Agent Gary Auer said.

Additional evidence was presented to federal prosecutors and Martinez was rearrested Oct. 23, Auer said. Johnson pleaded guilty Aug. 24 to robbing the bank and awaits sentencing on Jan. 13, officials said.
