Xerox Corp., the nation’s leading maker of copying and duplicating machines, said its earnings rose 11% in the third quarter, thanks to strong sales of document processors.

The Stamford, Conn.-based company said it earned $135 million, equal to $1.18 a share, compared to $121 million, or $1.06 a share, in the third quarter of last year. It reported revenue of $4.47 billion, up from $4.28 billion a year ago.

Third-quarter income from its document-processing business rose 9% to $128 million, from $117 million. But its insurance and financial services unit earned $49 million, down from $51 million a year ago, because of poor results at Crum & Forster, its property and casualty insurance operations.
