Flynn Does Right Thing

For once, we have a supervisor acting quickly and taking strong action. Supervisor John K. Flynn’s willingness to reduce total compensation, by refusing perks, is to be highly commended and should be emulated by the other Ventura County supervisors.

I want to know who on the county’s new compensation panel will represent the middle- and lower-income taxpayer? Who will represent the fieldworker, mechanic, teacher, salesclerk, unemployed, ethnic minority--the majority of taxpayers? I venture to say that not one person on that panel sees the taxpayer’s pain from the bottom up. County supervisors and department heads: Take action on your own. Show taxpayers that you have sensitivity and courage to address serious economic taxpayer pain, and substantially reduce your benefits. Better yet, supervisors, accept the average teacher’s salary, and give teachers yours.
