SIMI VALLEY : Skull Found Off Black Canyon Road

Share

Officials with the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department and the county coroner’s office recovered a human skull from a remote area outside Simi Valley on Tuesday, remains believed to be linked to the mysterious disappearance of a Los Angeles man in 1986.

The skull was found more than a mile off Black Canyon Road late Monday by a rancher walking on his property, said Sheriff’s Sgt. Mike De Los Santos. The rancher escorted officials to the location early Tuesday and the skull was turned over to coroner’s investigators.

Deputy Coroner Craig Stevens said the skull was found in the same rural area where skeletal remains and personal effects were found two years ago. At the time, investigators believed that the remains were of a missing Los Angeles man in his early 20s.

No positive identification was possible, Stevens said, because the skull could not be located. Investigators are scheduled to run dental tests today on the most recent find to see if the skull’s characteristics correspond with those of the missing man, said Deputy Coroner Zelmira Isaac.
