ANTELOPE VALLEY : College Advises Students of New Fee

Share

Antelope Valley College has sent letters to 588 students who have bachelor’s degrees or higher, advising them that they may be subject to a $50-per-unit fee next year, as a result of action by state lawmakers.

Under the law imposing the new fee, students can apply for an exemption if they are dislocated workers, people on public assistance, displaced homemakers or non-California residents who already pay higher tuition, said Jim McDonald, director of admissions.

Otherwise, students with bachelor’s degrees or higher who have been paying a $15 fee for a three-unit class will have to pay $150 starting with the spring semester in January, McDonald said. Such students also will be given a lower registration priority, he said.
