Gulls Release Brewer, Lambert

Share

The Gulls on Wednesday reduced their roster to 21 by saying goodby to their two youngest players, center Michael Brewer, 23, and left wing Denny Lambert, 22.

Talk about experience, the average age on the Gulls now is 29.4.

Brewer, a rookie from Brown University, had not played in the club’s eight games. He is expected to join the Canadian Olympic team. Lambert, last season’s Most Improved Gull who had racked up 39 penalty minutes in three games this year, was loaned to St. Thomas of the Colonial Hockey League.

The Gulls go for their ninth consecutive victory to open the season today at Atlanta (4:35 p.m. PDT, delayed on KSDO-AM 1130 and KGMG-AM 1320 at 6:35). With games Friday in Cleveland and Saturday in Fort Wayne, the Gulls are going for the International Hockey League record of 10 victories in a row to open a season, set last year by Kansas City.
