Factory Outlet Site Near Gorman Gains County Planners’ Approval
A proposed factory outlet center near Gorman, consisting of 85 retail shops, has moved a step closer to reality.
The Los Angeles Regional Planning Commission approved the planned 325,000-square-foot project Wednesday, clearing the way for the County Board of Supervisors to consider final approval of the development, proposed by the Washington-based McArthur/Glen Group. The project also would include a retail strip center to be built by The Sammis Co. of Westlake Village, along with an 80-room motel, five restaurants, two gas stations and a small convenience market.
The center is planned for a 50-acre site north of the junction of the Golden State Freeway and California 138.
A second Grapevine-area factory outlet center, including at least 40 stores, has been proposed by Ginsburg Craig Associates on a 25-acre tract in Kern County near Lebec, about 10 miles north of the Gorman project.
