A 37-year-old Los Angeles man was killed Friday when his car broke down on the Golden State Freeway and was struck by another vehicle, the California Highway Patrol said.
The man, whose identity was withheld until relatives could be notified, was driving north on the freeway at 7:22 a.m., just south of Van Nuys Boulevard, when he began having car problems, Sgt. Greg Harris said.
The car eventually stopped in traffic and the motorist was checking under the hood when the car was rear-ended by another vehicle.
The man was killed instantly and a passenger in his car received a head injury, Harris said. The driver of the other car was not cited.
Harris said the driver who was killed made no attempt to warn oncoming traffic that his vehicle had stalled.
