Berry Moves In to Coach Blues

Bob Berry, who thought he had left the bench behind, finds himself behind it again. Berry, an aspiring general manager, was chosen Friday to replace Bob Plager, who resigned after only 11 games as coach of the St. Louis Blues.

“It was not something that in any way I actively went after,” said Berry, who became assistant general manager May 1, the same day Plager took over as coach.

Berry, 48, has coached for nine seasons in the NHL with the Kings, Montreal and Pittsburgh, compiling a record of 311-292-100. He was 30-38-12 in 1986-87 with Pittsburgh, his last season of coaching.
