A 16-year-old Ramona High School track star, driving home from a meet with her sister and two friends as passengers, lost control of the car on rain-slicked streets and died Friday when her car hit a tree, authorities said.

Karma Lee McCalister was driving the small Toyota Corolla sedan that spun out of control on San Vicente Road southbound near Warnock Drive about 4:25 p.m., a California Highway Patrol spokeswoman said Saturday.

CHP investigators said the car struck a tree on the driver’s side. McCalister died at the scene from multiple injuries.
