A Vote for TV Minus the Phils, Oprahs

Share

Re “There Is a Morning After for This Tuned-Out TV Addict” (Oct. 18): Are Rip Rense and I watching the same television?

Sure, there is lots of junk on the tube, but I have seen wonderfully acted plays; I have heard inspiring concerts from Lincoln Center; I have taken courses in literature, geology, history, psychology; I have also studied French, German, Spanish; I have seen thoughtful news programs. I have traveled to foreign lands.

Where? Mostly on public television (although once in a while, the networks come up with an interesting documentary).

I skip the Phils and Oprahs and soap operas and game shows. Television is wonderful if you use it with discrimination. There is no need to “kick the habit.”
