Valenzuela Rides Lissitki to Santa Anita Victory

Lissitki, a 10-1 longshot, took the lead with less than a sixteenth of a mile remaining Thursday in winning the $32,000 feature race at Santa Anita’s Oak Tree meeting by a half-length over Philadelphia Dave.

Lissitki, ridden by Patrick Valenzuela and carrying 116 pounds, covered one mile on the turf course in 1:35 1/5 and paid $22.40, $8.20 and $5.

The victory, one of four on the day for Valenzuela, was worth $17,600 to Cohen & Red Baron’s Barn, owners of the winner.

Philadelphia Dave, the even-money favorite ridden by Kent Desormeaux and carrying 115 pounds, crossed the finish line 1 1/2 lengths ahead of Bad Boy Butch and returned $3.40 and $2.80.

Bad Boy Butch paid $5 to show.
