Although Steiger is generally optimistic about the stock market’s likely performance over the next three to five years, she’s picky about where to put her money.

She doesn’t like energy stocks because they have under-performed the market and are unlikely to improve soon.

She dislikes technology stocks in general because they are too volatile, and their prices far exceed their earnings.

What does she like?

Financial services, particularly BankAmerica and Primerica. She believes BankAmerica, which recently acquired Security Pacific National Bank, will enjoy enormous market growth with streamlined operations. She likes the stock under $43 per share.

She says Primerica, which she likes under $45 per share, has an attractive combination of companies and is headed by the proven and dynamic turnaround artist, Sandy Weill.
