Share

The city will show a film Wednesday evening on the lives of immigrants in Germany as part of its free weekly foreign film series.

The series, which is being held to expose residents to the ways people from different cultures view life, concludes at 7 p.m. Wednesday with the screening of “Dragon Chow” by German director Jan Schutte.

“Dragon Chow” was Schutte’s directorial debut in 1988. The movie recounts the efforts of a young Pakistani refugee and his Chinese friends to find freedom and new lives in Hamburg.

Germany’s liberal asylum laws have resulted in the country becoming home to millions of refugees, mostly from southeastern Europe. The refugees continue to be a sore point among nationalist conservatives, who have attacked recent immigrants and their homes.

The movie, which will be shown on a large-screen television inside City Hall, is the last of several foreign films shown as part of the city Intercultural Advisory Committee’s “Multiculturalism Goes to the Movies” series. Each film ends with a discussion of the film.

City Hall is at the northwest corner of Harvard Avenue and Alton Parkway. For information, call (714) 724-6684.
