Share

A Montebello High School teacher was sentenced Thursday to 60 days in county jail and three years probation for brandishing a stun gun in a classroom.

Jerry Woodrome, 53, was found guilty of two counts of brandishing a stun gun and one count of bringing a stun gun to school. Woodrome, who taught accelerated science courses at Montebello High, placed a stun gun within inches of two students and turned it on, igniting a spark, Deputy Dist. Atty. Greg Dohi said.

The teacher also placed a stun gun on the necklace of a second boy’s neck and activated the gun, causing a bead on the necklace to crack, Dohi said. Woodrome never actually shot the students with the stun gun.

“He just frightened them with the gun,” Dohi said. “He would say something like ‘wake up.’ ”

Woodrome already has served 30 days of the 60-day sentence while an in-patient at a counseling facility. He will serve the remaining 30 days of his sentence under house arrest.
