More than 2,000 people, including some celebrities, turned out Sunday in Anaheim to participate in a community benefit for the Children’s Hospital of Orange County.

The second annual CHOC / Disneyland Community Walk covered five miles and included the hospital’s mascot, CHOCO Bear, along with Mickey Mouse and assorted other Disney characters.

Olympians on hand were Florence Griffith Joyner, Al Joyner and Cathy Rigby.

In addition to a variety of corporate sponsors, walkers who generated a minimum of $25 in pledges received a reduced-price admission ticket to Disneyland.

CHOC’s new hospital expansion opened one year ago.

It features an expanded newborn and pediatric intensive care unit, as well as an entire floor that is dedicated exclusively to oncology and oncology intensive care.

The final phase of construction is underway.

The hospital plans to pave the entrance with bricks that contain inscriptions recognizing the generosity of donors.

The hospital’s research center moved into an expanded and upgraded research facility this fall.

Some of the specialties of the center are pediatric cancer, bone marrow transplantation, diabetes, rheumatology and hematology.

CHOC is the only hospital in Orange County that attends exclusively to children.
