A Small Fortune: Project Playhouse ‘92, the Orange County Building Industry Assn.’s fund-raiser for its HomeAid homeless shelter program, was an unqualified success, raising nearly $85,000, project chairwoman Andrea Bertrand reports.
Eleven playhouses built and donated by members of the county’s home-building industry were sold in a charity auction Saturday at Fashion Island in Newport Beach.
A 12th playhouse--a replica of the new Hard Rock Cafe at Fashion Island--was the grand prize in a raffle. Tustin resident Nate Forrest held the winning ticket.
Bertrand said more than 350 people showed up to bid on the playhouses.
An exquisitely detailed Victorian mansion playhouse built by a team organized by William Lyon Co. was the hit of the auction, fetching a staggering $18,000.
In all, she said, the auction and raffle raised $70,000. Sponsorships by companies like Home Depot and General Electric Corp. brought in another $15,000.
