South Gate : Federal Funds Awarded to Aid Low-Income Renters
South Gate has received $769,000 in federal funds to help low-income residents rent housing in the city.
The city already subsidizes 629 households, and the additional money will provide assistance for 60 more for two years, officials said. About 2,000 households are on the waiting list for subsidies.
Officials said renters make up half of the households in South Gate, and at least 35% of the city’s residents are classified as very low income.
