Crack Down on Criminals

Share

Only two months ago I walked out of Sherman Oaks Fashion Square into the parking lot to witness a young woman getting her face slapped. It was evident by the clothes, car, etc., that neither she nor the two guys she was with belonged in this area.

What were they doing there? Who knows, but I doubt they were shopping. Now I read that a man was held up at gunpoint in that very same parking lot for the purpose of stealing his car. “Teen-Age Gunman Hijacks, Crashes Car” (Times Valley Edition, Nov. 13). I am not surprised, but an alarm bell is ringing loud and clear.

What’s next? Well, as one who remembers the days when you could just get on an airplane and take off without going through metal detectors first or having your luggage X-rayed, I can see the day coming when we will be forced into doing the same thing at our shopping centers if the prosecuting and judicial ends of our law enforcement systems don’t start to crack down hard on crimes like this.
