DEAR DIARY
As a volunteer activist for the California Abortion Rights Action League, I was extremely upset by Richard Reeves’ accusation that “male elected officials have taken over” our organization and the women up front are their “once and future staffers” (“The Harsh Education of a Political Husband,” Oct. 18). Reeves felt CARAL should have switched its endorsement from one of our longtime supporters simply because he is male, while a woman (Reeves’ wife) was running against him.
As the political arm of the abortion-rights movement, CARAL makes a point of backing incumbents of both sexes who have taken the heat while in office and opposed any measures that would limit a woman’s right to a safe and legal abortion.
