Real Heroes Make World Safe for Fakes
John Wayne most assuredly did see action overseas in World War II. He and two young lady USO vocalists visited our 49th Fighter Group, Fifth Air Force, in New Guinea in the fall of 1943.
That base was the most advanced American forces facility in the theater and the closest to the enemy. It was under nearly nightly intruder harassment and bombing with occasional daylight raids.
Corwin may ridicule John Wayne’s political posture, but in personal courage, The Man was there and admired by all.
