SIMI VALLEY : Fired Officer Seeks Reinstatement

Share

A Simi Valley police officer who was fired after having a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old Explorer Scout he later married has filed an administrative appeal with the city in an attempt to get his job back.

Kevin Medley, 35, last week appealed to City Manager Lin Koester to reverse the dismissal.

Assistant City Manager Mike Sedell said no date has been set to consider the appeal, which Koester probably will refer to an independent hearing officer for a ruling.

“Basically, this is an administrative appeal saying, ‘I don’t think I should be fired, please take another look,’ ” Sedell said.

Medley had been with the department for three years when he was fired Nov. 5 after investigations by his own department and the Ventura County district attorney’s office revealed he had entered into a sexual relationship with the teen-ager he later married in Las Vegas.

The district attorney declined to prosecute the officer, primarily because the girl and her family were not willing witnesses against him.

Medley’s attorney, Darryl E. Mounger, did not return calls on Monday. Shortly after his client was fired, Mounger said Medley would appeal to the city for reinstatement.
