Mario Lemieux was knocked out of last spring’s playoff series against the New York Rangers when he was slashed by Adam Graves.

Lemieux said revenge was not on his mind Monday night, but the Pittsburgh Penguin star played as if it was by scoring two goals and assisting on another in a 5-2 victory at New York.

“That’s in the past,” said Lemieux, who has 100 points against the Rangers, the most he has scored against any NHL team. “We won the Stanley Cup and that’s all that matters. What happened before is not important.”

The Penguins rallied to eliminate the Rangers in six games last spring despite the injury to Lemieux in Game 2. This time, they made the reeling Rangers play catch-up. Tom Barrasso made 39 saves for the Penguins, including a glove save on Graves’ deflection midway through the third period.

Lemieux put the game away with 1:29 remaining when he got his second goal, and Rick Tocchet completed the scoring by hitting an empty net with 25 seconds left.

Boston 3, Ottawa 2--The Senators appeared to tie the score with 30 seconds left in the third period at Ottawa, but the goal was disallowed because the Senators had eight men on the ice.

Joe Juneau of the Bruins assisted on goals by Dmitri Kvartalnov, Adam Oates and Ray Bourque to hand the Senators their 11th consecutive loss.

The Senators got goals from Mike Peluso and Brad Shaw, but only a flurry of Ottawa chances in the late minutes of the game made the contest appear close. The Bruins outshot the Senators, 41-21. The Senators are 1-20-1.

Detroit 10, Tampa Bay 5--Sergei Fedorov, Ray Sheppard and Dino Ciccarelli each scored twice at Detroit as the Red Wings won for the fifth time in six games.

The Red Wings scored their most goals since beating San Jose, 11-1, on Feb. 15. The 10 goals were the most the Lightning has given up.

The Red Wings opened a 3-0 lead after one period. Fedorov scored two goals, his ninth and 10th, and Steve Chiasson scored the third on a slap shot.

Vancouver 5, Chicago 2--Gino Odjick scored two goals and Pavel Bure got his 23rd to lead the Canucks at Vancouver.

The Canucks, undefeated in their last seven home games, improved to 12-8-2 and stayed within four points of the first-place Kings in the Smythe Division.

Petr Nedved and Trevor Linden scored the other Vancouver goals, with Linden and Bure scoring on the power play.

Montreal 1, Washington 1--John LeClair scored for the Canadiens in the first period and Todd Krygier tied it for the Capitals in the second at Montreal.
