Ford Motor Co. has named Basil J. Coughlan to a new position as vice president of North American marketing operations and plans.

Coughlan, 52, will be responsible for planning and executing marketing programs and will report to Robert Rewey, vice president of North American sales operations.

Coughlan will oversee Ford of Canada/North American Automotive Operations export sales and marketing, and will be marketing liaison with Ford Mexico. The responsibilities previously belonged to Rewey, who will concentrate on the big picture, Ford said.

Most recently, Coughlan was vice president of sales for Ford of Europe. He has been a vice president since 1988.
