Steve Maltais’ second goal with 6:52 left gave Tampa Bay a 3-2 victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs on Tuesday night at Toronto, ending the Lightning’s five-game losing streak.

One night after being routed, 10-5, at Detroit, the Lightning beat the Maple Leafs for the first time in three tries when Maltais scored during a scramble in front of the goal. Maltais also scored in the first period and ex-Maple Leaf Brian Bradley connected in the second.

Mike Krushelnyski and Mike Foligno scored for Toronto, which announced during the game that it had acquired offensive-minded center John Cullen from Hartford for a second-round draft pick in either of the next two seasons.

Winnipeg 3, New York Islanders 3--Pierre Turgeon’s goal with 1:00 left in regulation capped a game-long comeback to get the Islanders a tie.

The Islanders trailed, 2-0, after the second period and, 3-2, in the final 90 seconds. But with goalkeeper Mark Fitzpatrick on the bench and an extra attacker on the ice, defenseman Jeff Norton sent a perfect cross-ice pass from near the left boards to Turgeon, who stuffed it just inside the left post for his 13th goal.

The Islanders outshot the Jets, 22-5, in the third period and tied the score on goals by Ray Ferraro and Benoit Hogue, only to fall behind again when Winnipeg defenseman Sergei Bautin scored 61 seconds after Hogue’s goal.
