Glendale : Enrollment Grows 3.8%
Glendale’s student population grew by 3.8% this academic year, nearly twice the increase anticipated. Secondary schools reported the largest increase, a 6% gain, according to enrollment figures presented to the Board of Education recently. Enrollment in Glendale elementary schools grew by 2%.
Supt. Robert Sanchis cautioned the board that although the increase will bring unexpected revenue to the district, the enrollment growth was smaller than in previous years and the long-term enrollment trend is leveling off.
School officials monitor enrollment data in part because the state allocates about $3,000 per pupil to the district. There are 27,923 pupils in Glendale schools.
