Here are some things Chuck Daly didn’t have to deal with last summer:

Losing.

Derrick Coleman.

The coach of the all-conquering Dream Team now coaches the New Jersey Nets, who arrived in the Forum with a three-game losing streak.

Still stinging from a public whipping by Coleman, the Nets rallied in the fourth quarter to beat the Lakers, 100-98, Wednesday night.

Coleman lashed into Daly, Nets’ management and several teammates.

Whatever works.

“I’m going to tell Mo (Chris Morris) to go off tomorrow,” Daly said, smiling “so we can get it on for Utah.”

The Lakers started the night with a 14-game winning streak over the Nets at the Forum, dating to 1978. They started the fourth quarter leading by six points but saw Net guard Kenny Anderson score 10 points in six minutes, leading a rally that tied the game.

With 1:15 left, Drazen Petrovic’s 17-footer put the Nets ahead to stay, 98-96.

Moments later Petrovic hit two free throws to make it 100-96.

Sam Perkins’ layup cut it to 100-98 with 23 seconds left. The Lakers got two more chances to tie after Coleman missed two free throws but two three-pointers by Sedale Threatt missed.

“I have to look at the tape but the last play, (Threatt’s three-point shot) was our last option,” Coach Randy Pfund said. “We seemed to go to our last option first.”

The Laker three-game winning streak--all home games against teams that played the night before--ended.

The Nets also played the night before. The Lakers grabbed a nine-point lead late in the third quarter, but this was the one that got away.

But that was only the beginning of their problems.

Coleman’s critique was published Wednesday in USA Today. Few Net teammates, coaches or officials escaped.

--On Daly’s offense.

“Everything comes to a halt,” Coleman said. “Everyone just stays still. As if to say, ‘Let’s see him maneuver out of this one.’ Damn, I get around my man and I’ve got to beat someone else.”

--On Daly’s play selection at the end of games.

“I’m supposed to be the star of the New Jersey Nets yet I didn’t see the ball. New York goes to Patrick (Ewing) when the game is up for grabs. Chicago goes to Michael (Jordan).”

--On the front office decision to let Terry Mills go.

“No one knows what to expect from that position off the bench. Jayson (Williams) runs up and down the court twice and he’s tired.”

--On Rumeal Robinson and Tate George advising point guard Anderson:

“How can you listen to guys who are playing behind you? Tate’s so bad, they can’t even trade him.”

By halftime Wednesday night, Coleman had squirmed free for 12 shots, eight of which he missed. He still scored 12 points as the teams, forsaking defense, traded baskets.

Laker Notes

Tony Smith, starting in place of Byron Scott again, led the Lakers with 17 points, after scoring 20 in his last game. . . . Scott missed his third game because of a sprained right foot.
